ZODIAC WILL PERFORM AT THE PALLADIUM CONCERT HALL IN AUTUMN
2013/07/10
The vanguards of Latvian electronic music Zodiac will perform one of their exclusive concerts at the Palladium Riga concert hall on October 31st. Tickets are available from Thursday, July 11 starting from LVL 19 at www.palladium.lv as well as Biļešu Serviss box offices. Table seats – LVL 45.
Following a vast public hype about Zodiac being named one of Posititvus festival’s headliners, the Latvian electronica pioneers will also perform at the Palladium Riga concert hall, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of its historical building this season. The new team - headed by the band’s creator and acclaimed composer Jānis Lūsēns - will perform their disco-era inspired tracks from their first two Zodiac records. Along with the original band members Jānis Lūsēns and Zigfrīds Muktupāvels, the line-up will also include Jānis Lūsēns jr., guitarist Mārcis Auziņš and drummer Mārtiņš Linde.
Lead by Jānis Lūsēns, the legendary Latvian electro band Zodiac (or Zodiaks in Latvian) was the first band whose modern and melodic record “Disco Alliance” (1980) became the first album in the Soviet Union to rival western music. The album sold more than 20 million copies, with their second record “Music In Universe” becoming a similarly popular and commercially successful album.
With their inspiring, patriotic and professionally brilliant compositions, Zodiac became one of the vanguards of the Latvian singing revolution in the 80’s. In 1987 and 1989 the band won the Grand Prix at the famous music festival “Liepājas dzintars”, thereafter still composing instrumental music which is featured on their album “In Memoriam”. Since ceasing their public musical activity in 1991, the band has performed only seldom, ensuring that every concert instantly becomes a prominent musical event.
