Artist Voldemārs Johansons, association “Kultūras Perons”
The concert venue "Palladium", on the premises of the former cinema, will host an environmental composition - laboratory of generative processes by artist Voldemars Johansons where the observations of physical phenomena are subjected to sensory analysis.
The generative sound environment is based on the notions of unpredictability, uncertainty and coincidence. These ideas are implemented in a network of electronic connections that perform computing activities with direct current and alternating current voltages. The analogue computing system, which performs signal processing operations with waveform functions, synthesises the output data in a form of multi-channel sound composition. This set of conditions forms a self-generating, modulating system which includes also a custom designed graphical data output device which makes the function spectrum visible. The object creates light projections with changing colour content and leaves a fluctuation spectrum luminograms - dynamic light impressions in the surrounding space.
The works of the artist Voldemārs Johansons have been exhibited in Venice Architecture Biennial, the art project ArtGENDA (Hamburg), Ruhrtriennale (Germany), WAVES (Dortmund), the festivals TodaysArt (Hague), Skaņu mežs (Riga), Unsound (Krakow), the studio STEIM (Amsterdam), BOZAR museum (Brussels), the Wroclaw media art biennial, Ars Electronica Center (Linz). Since 2009 the artist works in Art Research Lab and teaches the New media course in Liepāja University.
