A SOLO PERFORMANCE BY THE EXTRORDINARY RUFUS WAINWRIGHT AT THE PALLADIUM
On March 19th for the first time in Latvia, the Palladium concert hall will host the first solo performance of one of the brightest Canadian solo performers and composers Rufus Wainwright. Tickets are available from Thursday, December 12at www.palladium.lv and all “Biļešu Serviss” box-offices. Presale* tickets for Palladium and Positivus registered users are available from December 11. First 500 general admission tickets cost LVL 19 (Eur 27,03).
The last few years have been quite a journey for Rufus Wainwright, including his Glastonbury festival headlining performance this summer. He has also recently created his own opera Prima Donna, as well as received a Grammy nomination for his recreation of Judy Garland's fabled Carnegie Hall concert. All of these experiences inform his seventh studio album, Out of the Game, along with the input of a new collaborator, celebrated producer Mark Ronson, who performed in Latvia in 2009. The results are the loosest, most accessible music of Wainwright's career, retaining his distinctive narrative sense and wry wit while adding classic pop pleasures. Wainwright's recent personal life has also been dramatic - witnessing the birth of his daughter, Viva; the death of his mother, singer/songwriter Kate McGarrigle; and his engagement to partner Jorn Weisbrodt.
Rufus Wainwright has recorded seven studio albums and won two Juno Awards for Best Alternative Album, one in 1999 for Rufus Wainwright and one in 2002 for Poses. At the age of 15 he was nominated for a Genie Award for Best Original Song. A year later he received a nomination for a Juno Award for Most Promising Male Vocalist. He was also nominated for a BRIT Award for Best International Male Artist in 2008 and a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in 2009.
Tickets are available from Thursday, December 12at www.palladium.lv and all “Biļešu Serviss” box-offices. The first 500 general admission tickets cost LVL 19 (Eur 27,03). Later – LVL 24 (34,15 EUR).
