Regina Spektor (born Regina Ilyinichna Spektor) is considered to be one of the most prominent performers of the alternative and anti-folk genre. Often described as the musical heiress of Tory Amos and Kate Bush, Spektor creates her emotionally enticing and captivating ballads by combining the elements of pop, jazz, punk, classical music, hip hop as well as Russian an American folk music.

Spektor’s vibrant piano masterpieces, including her most popular tracks “Fidelity”, “Samson”, “Eet” and many more have rightfully earned her both top chart positions as well as legions of devoted fans. Each unique song entails fractions of Eastern traditions mixed with both modern and classical Western music rhythms. Reviewing her latest album “What We Saw from the Cheap Seats” (2012) Rolling Stone magazine suggests that it may be Spektor’s best work yet. Describing her music as   “Spiking piano-driven songs of heartbreak with comic turns of phrase, cartoon voices and beatboxing outbursts”, the magazine labels Spektor as “her generation's Joni Mitchell – a singer-songwriter who nail-guns emotional truths between wisecracks.”

Born in Moscow, Soviet Union, in 1980 to a musical Russian Jewish family, Spektor and her family eventually immigrated to New York at the end of the 80’s. After graduating from the Conservatory of Music, Spektor’s classical music interest incorporated elements of hip hop, rock and punk. Following her first self-released records and numerous performances, Spektor’s breakthrough came after supporting The Strokes on their 2003 tour. She was then invited to feature as an opening act for Kings of Leon and Keane.

After several sold-out performances, Spektor’s third record “Soviet Kitch” (2004) was already released through Sire Records. With tens of thousands of album copies sold worldwide, the catchy tunes from her records have been featured in numerous commercials, movies and television series, including “Grey’s Anatomy”, “How I Met Your Mother”, “My Sisters Keeper”, “Love and Other Drugs” etc. Not only has Spektor performed at the biggest international music festivals, but also made numerous appearances on the biggest U.S. talk shows, performed at the White House Christmas ball (to standing ovations) as well as countless charity shows.
