MEET ALICE FRANCIS: THE NEW SWING-ERA’S DESIGNATED QUEEN OF COOL AND EASILY ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING NEW ACTS THIS YEAR.
Event schedule:
Doors 18:00
Alice Francis 19:00
Besides her unique voice that melds modern pop with the crystal clear pitch of all-time greats like Billie Holiday and Eartha Kitt, Alice is an extraordinarily skilled songwriter, lyricist and live-performer.
Alice Francis is a true cosmopolitan with roots on two continents - no wonder she met her long-term musical counterpart Goldielocks ’on the road’. After catching up with the multi-instrumentalist and producer in a jazz bar in Mimizan, France, Alice and Goldie got together for several legendary jam sessions in Goldie's former boheme-commune. It soon became clear that the two of them could create something bigger than the sum of its parts. Something that was completely their own.
Although by no means denying a fascination for Josephine Baker, the Charleston tradition and 1920s jazz, Alice and Goldielock's productions go beyond blatant retro-chic. The sound of the roaring twenties crafted with the digital opportunities of the 21st century, if you will.
Live on stage, Alice mainly focusses on vocal duties and premier front woman-ship, all the whilst Sir Chulmin-Yoo simulates a background choir with his harmonizer, and Goldielocks creates a full one-man big band armed with Ableton Live and a Novation Launchpad. Safe to say that Alice came a long way from your tiny jazz spot to bigger venues and dancefloors across Europe. Electro-swing don Parov Stelar proved himself an early fan of Alice and her gang, lacing a remix and inviting her to join him touring Germany.
